I'm currently training 9 athletes to run 100 miles with me.
And I'm shocked by this one aspect of our prep:
I am constantly telling my athletes to DO LESS.
Here's what I mean...
They're running for 3, 4 and 5 hours all the time.
Yet I'm constantly hearing this: "I feel like I should be doing more."
Here's what I ask in reply...
"How's your diet right now?" Inconsistent.
"Are you stretching regularly?" No.
"How's your sleep routine?" Could use improvement.
I see the average guy making the same mistake in marriage:
They are focusing on BIG EFFORTS like:
The extravagant vacation
The fancy new handbag
The white-tablecloth dinner
Meanwhile, they are completely skipping the fundamentals:
complimenting their wife daily
acknowledging her effort with the kids
surprising her with a coffee and muffin from her favorite local spot (I love doing this)
All stable growth is built on consistency with the fundamentals.
And no big effort will replace that.
